italian travels_1
last week i found notebooks of my trip to italy. this blog did not exist then. probably, blogs didn't exist so after some years, i have decided to post my observations on italy.
my trip happened from a random mail which dr mitra forwarded to me. this was about a two week training program in gaslini hospital in genoa. i sent an application and documents and it was accepted to my surprise. next thing was to get a visa for italy. that necessisated a trip to mumbai as all applicants had to present themselves.
on getting to the italian counsulate in the morning, i was surprised to see a long line of applicants. i had never thought that so many persons wish to visit italy.
there had to be a confirmed airline booking, invitation and proofs of residence, job, profession and so on. which were provided. the airline office was near gateway of india and i visited the office in morning around 10 am. then the consulate asked for it returns which i had not carried. however, i decided to call it a day and went to dadar to take a but to lonavala and then back home.
the taxi ride went off uneventfully and i reached lonavala some time in the evening.
three bombs had exploded in mumbai in the morning killing several people, one near gateway of india.
koustubh was trapped in mumbai as police stopped all traffic. but he was safe and we talked on phone. vidya was comforted.
i spent the night in lonavala. koustubh reached next morning and i left for home.
next week was spent in getting all documents from vivek joshi, professional records from mit, i added few press cuttings also.
second trip was easy. now i knew the routine. met the visa officer and handed all documents and asked her to hand over the passport to my agent as i could not keep coming.
met dr sudhakar jadhav from sangli who was also there in connection with visa.
this time, i was to meet jyotsna who was passing through. we planned to meet at flora fountain but she couldn't make it so i shopped for books, bought churchill's six volume war memoirs and sundry other books on italy, rome etc and returned by train.
